Statement on the commencement of the HIQA review of urgent and emergency healthcare services in the Mid-West
Statement from the Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) on the commencement of the HIQA review of urgent and emergency healthcare services in the Mid-West
“We welcome the commencement by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) of an independent review, commissioned by Minister Stephen Donnelly, of emergency healthcare services in the Mid-West region.
“The people of the Mid-West and those working in hospitals across the University of Limerick Hospitals Group (ULHG) want to build a stronger health service. This review provides an opportunity to collectively and cohesively address long-standing challenges, specify required improvements, and ultimately make informed decisions.
“We welcome the publication of the Terms of Reference of this review as a step in the right direction. The emphasis placed on stakeholder engagement, a clinical advisory forum, and utilisation of specialist expertise are particularly notable.
“The backdrop to this review is where none of us want to be. The problems in Limerick and the wider Mid-West are deep-rooted and can only be solved through a collaborative, joined-up approach.
“We look forward to engaging constructively with the HIQA review and playing our part in fully and finally addressing the region’s long-standing challenges, so that we can ensure better patient outcomes.”
