IHCA repeats calls for immediate protection of healthcare workers and patients following Al Nasser Hospital bombing
The Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) strongly condemns the recent bombing of Al Nasser Hospital, and repeats calls for all parties to uphold their obligations to protect the safety of healthcare workers and patients under international law.
This targeting of Al Nasser Hospital is unacceptable and comes just days after a hospital facility in the Sumy region of Ukraine was struck in a drone attack.
Healthcare facilities must never be targeted, and all parties involved in conflict have a legal and moral obligation to safeguard those providing and receiving medical care. The IHCA is again calling on the international community to uphold humanitarian law and ensure that our colleagues in these regions can work without fear of violence, and that patients receive the care they urgently need.
The IHCA reiterates its unwavering commitment to advocating for the safety of all healthcare workers and calls on governments and humanitarian organisations to take decisive steps to prevent further tragedies.
