IHCA announce new senior appointment
Dara Gantly to join Association as Senior Policy and Research Executive
The Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) has announced that Dara Gantly is to join the Association at the end of October. Dara, who is currently the editor of Irish Medical Times, will take up the new post of Senior Policy and Research Executive.
Mr Gantly has been Editor of Irish Medical Times since 2010 and has close to two decades of experience in medical publishing. He has been individually recognised at the Irish Medical Media Awards on four occasions, receiving three Professional Medical Journalist of the Year awards for his work with Medicine Weekly and Scope magazine and the overall Irish Medical Journalist of the Year award in 2007. He has also been a regular contributor in the national media on Health matters and has frequently appeared as an expert health analyst on RTÉ, TV3 and BBC Radio Ulster.
As a highly respected, award-winning Editor and medical journalist, with a BA in History and English and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism & Media Communications, Mr Gantly will bring a wealth of intelligence to the Association on all healthcare issues, as well as knowledge of the specific concerns facing consultants.
Welcoming the appointment, IHCA Secretary General Mr Martin Varley said: “I am delighted that someone of Dara’s calibre will be joining the IHCA. His knowledge and experience of the health service and consultant issues in particular will be invaluable in ensuring that the Association maintains its position as a key influencer on health policy issues.”
Commenting on his new role, Mr Gantly said: “I believe that representing the concerns of consultants, through advocating for greater resources and enhanced facilities is essential for the delivery of high quality patient care. The IHCA has always provided the vision to shape future health policy, and I am looking forward to working with the Association for the betterment of all who use our health service.”
